It’s OK To Ask For Help

I’ll be honest — asking for help isn’t something that comes naturally to most of us.

Whether it’s for your mental health, physical wellbeing, or money worries, there’s often a voice in your head that says “I should be able to cope,” or “Others have it worse.” I know that voice well. I’ve lived with it. But here’s the truth: needing help doesn’t make you weak. It makes you human.

At the Mark Hewitson Foundation, we’ve supported people in crisis with small grants to cover things like:
– Medical travel costs
– Emergency food or utility bills
– Funeral expenses
– Clothing and essentials for children
– Therapy fees
– And moments where someone just needed a lifeline

We’ve also been there when people simply needed someone to listen, or to know that their story mattered.

💛 Physical Health
If you’re struggling with a long-term illness, sudden diagnosis, or recovering from an operation — it’s exhausting. Even things like hospital parking, transport, or heating your home can become overwhelming. It’s not just the illness, it’s everything around it.

You don’t need to go through that alone.

💕 Mental Health
If your brain feels noisy, numb, or just too much — please know that you are not broken. Whether it’s anxiety, depression, PTSD, bipolar, or anything in between — you deserve support just as much as anyone with a visible condition. Your pain is valid. And it’s okay to say, “I’m not okay.”

We’ve helped cover therapy sessions, wellbeing resources, and small comforts that ease the load. The kind of things that let someone take a breath and feel seen.

🧾 Financial Help
Life can unravel quickly. A missed payday, benefits delay, sudden loss — and suddenly you’re spiralling. At a time when everything feels unstable, financial pressure can push you to breaking point.

That’s why we exist — to step in quickly with no judgment. We know that asking is hard enough without having to jump through hoops.

📝 How to Apply
If you or someone you know is struggling, visit our Apply for a Grant page. It’s short and simple. Just tell us what you need, and we’ll do what we can.

You don’t need to write an essay. You don’t need to prove you’re “worthy.” If you’re in a tough spot and need help — you are exactly the kind of person this Foundation was created for.

🌱 You are not alone
Whether you need help with your body, your mind, or your money — please don’t suffer in silence. Reaching out is an act of courage. And it could be the first step in things getting better.

If you’re still unsure, read some of the stories from people we’ve helped. They felt nervous too. But they’re glad they did.

You deserve support. And we’re here x
