I’ve been working on some stuff lately — both personally and via Mark’s Foundation — and one thing that keeps coming up in conversations is just how hard things have got for people.
The cost of living crisis isn’t a headline anymore — it’s real life. It’s choosing between heating and food. It’s a gas meter that cuts off mid-shower. It’s kids going to school hungry, or parents sitting in the cold because they’re scared to use the electric. And the truth is, it’s happening everywhere — especially here in Cov.
No Shame in Struggling
If you’re finding it hard, please know you’re not failing. You’re not alone.
This system isn’t working for a lot of people. And while that might not make it easier, it might help you feel less isolated.
There is support out there. It might take a bit of digging, or courage, to reach out, but it’s there. I’ve pulled together some local resources that could help if you’re feeling stuck.
Where to Get Help in Coventry
Coventry City Council
They’ve got a dedicated Cost of Living & Wellbeing section on their website. You can get help through the Household Support Fund – this includes things like:
- Energy vouchers (some people are getting up to £300)
- Help with council tax, rent arrears, and water bills
- Food support
- School uniform and meal help
Visit: https://www.coventry.gov.uk/costofliving or call 08085 834 333.
Warm Welcome Spaces
All across the city — libraries, community halls, churches — there are warm, safe spaces you can drop into. No need to explain yourself. Just go. Some even offer free advice sessions.
HOPE Coventry & Independent Advice Services

What We’re Doing – The Mark Hewitson Foundation
The Foundation was born from loss, but it’s grown into something that offers real, practical help when life feels too much.
If you’re facing hardship, we might be able to:
– Top up your prepayment meter for gas/electric
– Cover a small bill
– Offer a grant to help you access therapy or essential items
– Or just listen, without judgment
It’s not about jumping through hoops. It’s about recognising that everyone deserves dignity, warmth, and support — especially when life’s already thrown enough at you.
If you want to apply, just visit https://markhewitsonfoundation.org or message us directly on Facebook. We’ll do our best to help.
You’re Not Alone
I know how it feels to lose everything you thought was secure. I’ve lived it. But I also know that community can carry you, even on the days when you’ve got nothing left to give.
If you need help, tell someone. If you don’t know what to say, just say, “I’m struggling.” That’s enough.
Take care of yourself x
