Next week, from 1–7 September, the Mark Hewitson Foundation is running our first ever *Hidden Disabilities Awareness Week.*
It’s for everyone who’s ever been told:
– “But you don’t look sick.”
– “You seemed fine yesterday.”
– “You’re just being dramatic.”
Because disability isn’t always visible. Pain, trauma, fatigue, and neurodivergence don’t always come with a walking stick or a diagnosis. But they’re real. And they matter.
🌿 What Are Hidden Disabilities?
Hidden disabilities — sometimes called invisible or non-visible disabilities — include conditions like:
– ME/CFS, fibromyalgia, chronic pain
– Mental health conditions like anxiety, bipolar, PTSD
– Autism, ADHD, dyslexia
– Long COVID
– Sensory processing disorders
– Autoimmune and neurological conditions
Many people live with more than one. Many more go undiagnosed, disbelieved, or dismissed.
💛 Why This Week Matters
We want to:
– Make the invisible, visible
– Challenge stigma
– Share tools, tips, and support
– Centre lived experience
– Remind people: you are not alone
Every day next week, we’ll be sharing blogs and resources — from pacing strategies to mental health support, benefits guidance to employment rights.
